Whenever i turn on my xbox it gives me the two red lights which indicates overheating (i think) i have opened it up and tried the regular 3 red rings fix but this makes no difference, does anybody know how to fix this?

Yes, it has happened to me. It happened actually after playing for just over an hour. Piece of crap. Wait till they fix the bugs, then buy it.

Xbox 360 Slim over heating?

I’ve been reading about the slim and have been saving up and have more than enough money to buy one. The only question i have is if the slim can completely die to the point where I need to send it in, or will it just shut down when it gets too hot, and then I can play again after it cools down. Either way I would still get an extended warranty, but I just want to make sure I get all my facts before I go and buy one. And all of you PS3 fans don’t bother telling me to not buy one because you think that the PS3 is better, they are both solid systems.

From what I’ve seen it shuts itself down and goes into this warning screen that says your XBOX is overheating. It’s already happened to people and there are vids of it on youtube, the vids are 100% legit. That would be a real pain in the as$ halfway through a game on in the middle of online matches. There have been some reported problems with the power brick as well or the XBOX just not powering on.

I’m so sick of this Xbox 360 overheating!?

I got a new Xbox 360 a little more than a week ago. My old one broke (disc tray problem), and now I’m already having problems. I never had overheating problems in the past, but now I am. The back of the console is getting hot after 5 minutes (as opposed to about an hour with my old one). It’s NOT because of placement and lack of ventilation, because I put it in the EXACT same position as my old one and changed nothing. Today, I felt the box (power supply) and I realized that was also hot. Could that be the problem? Does anyone know what’s going on?

It really depends where it is, Mine never over heats it can go for 14 hours

Mines never overheaded, Id say either your xclamp is coming loose, Or is in an inclosed area

Is there any way to fix a Xbox 360 safely thats about 2 years old to stop it from overheating?

Yeah, over the years since the xbox 360 came out I had like 3 or 4 different xbox 360s. The one I have now has been overheating ALOT. All I know is that I had it for about 2 years,which in my opinion is good, but now its really messing up. It takes me a while to read games or at least some and it sometimes reads them as DVDs or CDs now. I’m sick of it and I need a plan. My mom said that taken it apart and cleaning it could help, BUT she said there are seals and if you break them to fix your xbox you can’t get it fixed by microsoft. Any suggestions as to what I can do to repair it SAFELY to stop this crap? I really don’t want to destroy my xbox because we don’t have money for another 1 right now.

First step is to not take any of the already given advise. They are either completely unhelpful or they can damage your 360.

With Xbox 360’s and electronics in general. Is take care of them.

Treat them like you want them to perform. Keep it off of the carpet, do not keep it in tight and closed spaces. Do not place dvd/bd players or other systems below or on top of it.

Just make sure it has good air flow around it. And if you think thats not good enough, a small desk fan in the area couldn’t hurt things.
You could also prop the 360 up with something to allow more air intake in the bottom (i.e. dvd case, small box, etc)

Will the installing of games on xbox 360 prevent overheating?

I read alot about if you install the games on the xbox 360 hard drive, it will become quieter because the game disc will spin less? will that help prevent overheating?

No, overheating has to do with the hardware and what kind of environment your 360 is located in. Installing games merely makes load times faster, as it will retrieve the data that is installed onto your hard drive instead of the disc.

If your 360 overheats and it gets a RRoD, it is most likely due to the fact that you have either placed it in an area with little ventilation/on a carpet, or your 360 has an old motherboard with parts that have a high likelyhood of melting.

With the new slim 360s, however, the hardware is no longer an issue, and overheating should not occur altogether.

How long before new xbox 360 will overheat?

its brand new never played but i hear people say after like a couple years it gets the rings of death and overheats and needs fixing but im only going to play a couple times a day and an hour and a half at the most each time and not every single day. will it last longer or still a couple of years

It is really just luck but if it is brand new you should have no problem…They fixed this about 2 years after the first ones came out so no worries!!

My XBOX 360 over heated!?

Just contact customer support and they should fix the unit for free. Microsoft has extended their warranty to a full year for everyone.

Get on the phone and they will have you go through some troubleshooting. If they can’t get it up and running, they will send out a box for you to return the unit to them for repair.

A friend of mine just did this. He shipped his to Texas and got it back working like new in just over a week.

Xbox overheating problems?

I have an xbox 360 and whenever I turn it on it freezes. It does not appear to be an overheating problem because I do not get any red rings and the xbox is never hot, so I have no idea what the problem is. If I leave it off for about a day it lasts 2 minutes but never more than that. I am going to return it to microsoft and get a new one but if there is any way to fix it without having to send it in please tell me. Any feedback is welcome.

ive had the same problem with my xbox 360 and i asked on here and i ended up sending it in anyways. its a better and safer bet then risking your xboxs life even more than it already is.

How can you make your xbox 360 overheat?

My ex-boyfriend’s xbox’s tray is broken, and it won’t read the discs, so he’s trying to overheat it intentionally to get his xbox fixed for free instead of paying the $100 to have it fixed for the tray problem.
My question is, how can he make is xbox overheat faster, without waiting three days for it to overheat by leaving it running.

take out the game, remove all cables except the power chord… turn it on and wrap it in some towels or blankets and wait for 30 minuts-1hour tops and you should hear it slowing down… that means its over heated. i did this as a temporary fix when i got the red ring of death and it worked great
