I just got a new kinect ready 4GB x box and i dont want it to get ruined by overheating so how can i keep it cooled down

Do not put it in a confined space.

Make sure that the vents on the top on the Xbox are not covered.

Follow these two and you will be just fine. If you are still worried they do make an intercooler for the Xbox but rather than spend $xx.xx on it I would just put a fan blowing on it.

it has gotten the red ring of death twice and fixed both times. after the second time we fixed it it lasted 5 or 6 months now it is just overheating. I have a nyko intercooler and it is on varnished wood. also laying on its side.

lol im mexican, so this might sound ghetto but what me and my cousins do s that when it feels like ur xbox is getting hot get something from ur Freezer and place it where ur xbox is the hottest it worked really well for me and still works lol. Hope this helps u Friend =)

I’ve heard that you can only go around 4 hours with a normal xbox 360 because they overheat or get rrod and stuff but is it the same with the much more advanced slim? Just curious, because i will probably pull off a couple of all-day gaming sessions when i get one.

you should be fine…just sit it horizontally and make sure it is in the open….and try to keep the vents dust free..

I don’t want to spend $100 to repair my xbox.

Just keep it in a well ventilated area and put a fan on it. If you are under warranty, you don’t have to pay, but NEVER buy an intercooler, they can melt your consoles fans.

I was thinking I can take the side plastics off for a more fluent flow? Can I buy some little fan’s and putt them on the sides? Can I use the xbox with side covers off without extra problems? (side covers I mean the sides that have HD and the side you stand on).

Actually I have mine slightly elevated using a foam rubber stripping to allow better airflow underneath the system

Do you have any other tips on preventing an Xbox 360 from malfunctioning

it is supposed to have at least 4 inches of clearance around each side to allow good air flow. And never lay it on the carpet or floor. the carpet/floor has more dust on it than any other part of the house and your xbox will suck it into the vents and dust can cause many problems and make your xbox stop working.

i was wondering what is the best way to prevent over heating seeing as the red ring is such a big thing now a days.

you want to let it have some breathing room- just dont keep it in a little shelf with only one way out, the hot air can stay inside that space making the xbox warmer. you also dont want to use it that much. instead if playing for 5 hours straight , play every other hour.

put a fan next to it and blow air at it.
keep your house cooler then 70 degrees all the time.
don’t play for over 8 hours at a time.

if you fallow all of these i guarantee that it wont overheat!
