Hi guys, I just recently bought the new XBOX 360 slim by trading it in for my perfect XBOX Elite. The new slim is sweet and all but the top where the big vent is is getting really hot. Not really hot I guess, but like 80-90 degrees or so. There haven’t been any issues so far (I’ve only had it for a day), but is this normal? I mean my Elite was almost cold after I played on it for 5 hours! Please help me! Thank you?

if you wan to surpass the time limit but you’re scared it will overheated.
so , try to cool it !
play it in air-conditioner room or perhaps get a fan blowing it all times
overheating is normal actually, but we always misthink that it would spoil

I’ve had my xbox since 2005, and never had any problems with red lights. Unfortunately, in the past month, my xbox has overheated (two red lights) five times. I’ve tried placing a fan near it, and I’ve never EVER have placed it in a cluttered area. Obviously it’s out of warranty, and money is tight.

Is there any way to fix this problem besides buying a new xbox?

it may be the fans. they may not be as effiecent as you need them becuase of your play time. try putting up on like a small table and have a small fan blowing on it while playing. good luck!

My xbox overheats after only 30 minutes of playing black ops, but i can play other games for hours without it overheating. i tried every other game i own, but its only overheated while playing black ops.

help?

same thing happened to me. download the game to your hard drive and you should be ok

are people living in hotter areas of the world more likely to face over heating issues with their xbox 360′s and a potential red ring of death than the ones living in colder regions?

it would all depend on what temp you keep your house at. i live in south Florida. I keep my AC at like 73 and i have never had a problem with any of my x boxes i have an Elite and a regular xbox.
But if your xbox doesn’t have proper ventilation, it will over heat pretty quick.

the xbox 360 randomly shuts off about 30 seconds after turing it on and the two left quadrants will show in red (red rings of death) and apparently that indicates an overheating problem, but I’ve tried everything and nothing worked. and I think the warranty is out on it, can I still have it replaced??

its a built in problem with the older xbox’s. i think you can get microsoft to send you a new one. i had the 3 lights show up which were covered by microsofts warranty (as in it was their fault so they paid for it) but im not sure if its the same thing with 2 lights, go on the xbox website and arrange for the repair, it should tell you if you have to pay or not

well i just bought HD cables for my PS3 and the guy said i needed HDDI cables and not HDMI cables cause our tv doesn’t support HDMI just HDDI… i think hes full of you know what, but i am looking into getting an xbox 360 elite and i see it comes with HDMI cables…will these still work with my tv? its a sony 65” its silver, or would i need to buy different cables for it to work?, im very confused. oh and does the xbox 360 elite have overheating problems like the other xboxs? or did they fix it with the elite?
my tv gets 1080i just not HDMI is what the guy said…so that didn’t really help

to the retard who has the first answer, i had an elite that overheated. if you couldn’t use an HDMI cable with the PS3 why could you use one with the 360? it comes with component cables that you can use. they get 1080i and close to 1080p. of course they also get the lower quality settings. if your tv doesn’t get 1080p, use 720p because it is better then 1080i. hope this helped

I know that the first batch of xbox 360′s have had problems with overheating and crashing. What have microsoft done to adress these problems?

I recently bought an x360 and I am constantly worrying if mine (bought almost 2 years after initial release) is prone to these same problems..

Have they made any changes to the xbox 360 hardware since then?

yes the first batch had problems
but most of them were intertwined with "bug" problems
they have fixed the bugs
but every 360 is prone to over heat
they dont really crash
but they have a limit

Could I play an Xbox 360 for 5 hours or even more if i wanted too?

As long as you have your Xbox in an area where it can breathe, and preferrably not on a carpeted floor you should be able to play for hours upon hours without a crash. However if you keep it in a small cubby or shelf with no room to breathe it can crash within an hour or so.

Well I have been having small problems with my xbox 360 its keeps overheating and getting 2 red lights. How do I keep my Xbox 360 cool bacuse in my home the floor is very warm. Should I buy an intercooler or put it on a diffrent surface?

ok…first off…WHAT IS WITH ALL YOU PEOPLE AND USING THE COOLING UNITS!?!?!…have you not realized that they DO NOT WORK? first off…kep it off the floor, chances are that your console is plugged solid(sarcasticly) with dust and other fun stuff. and also…if you got your 360 when they first came out then its likely that the console was not made properly because microsoft just literally made them then put them in stores…i keep my 360 in moreless a cubby hole but it slides out so i just slide it out when i’m using it.i use a small fan beside my 360 to keep cooler air circualting around the system(console) ALSO: DONT PLAY FOR MORE THEN 3 – 5 HOURS OR YOU’LL END UP WITH PROBLEMS

I’ve had the xbox360 for about 6 months now and haven’t got any problem whatsoever. Most people consoles overheat is because they did not place the xbox 360 in a well ventilated area. It gives out a lot of heat during gameplay. It’s pretty simple.
