It freezes on new games. I did the qtip overheating trick 2 times on my xbox now it just freezes whenever i play a new game.

well you might need a new xbox but get rid of all the dust inside the xbox with a hover if you use it on its side move it or if its near a tv or dvd player the magnets can play up and cause problems so try that but you might just need a new one.

it gets a flashing red light in the middle and says "shutting down due to insufficient ventalation", but its well ventalated, is the power brick the one overheating, or no, and how can i fix it, i dont really want to spend 600 dollars to fix say, a warped pad inside, so is it even worth fixing?

I had a similar question this week. during the process of attempting to look the solution I ended up getting a free Xbox 360 with Kinnect from 1stmskinnectnetwork.tk!! my xbox with Kinnect is scheduled for delivery in 4 days and i’m so happy!!

Is their a quick fix to this problem it mostly happens on black ops, which is the only game i am playing at the moment so i want get it fixed, could go professional but wondering if their are any quick/cheap fixes i could use?

My son uses a xbox cooling fan which seems to help.

I just got it like 3 day ago and I fell asleep while watching a movie on netflix last night. It was still on when I woke up. I turned it off. Then I went to school. When I got home from school I Tryed to turn it on and the normally green dot came on but it immediately turned red, and stayed red. I’ve Tryed taking the hard drive out and putting it back in but that didn’t work. The worst part is my black ops disc is in there and I can’t get it out. Is there a quick fix for this? Please help!

The Xbox Live update on November 1, 2010 caused a large number of Xbox 360 to stop reading official discs and only give an "open tray" message on even non-modded consoles. Microsoft still hasn’t fixed the issue. There is also a new January 19, 2011 update that is now also giving people similar problems.

About a couple of weeks ago, I was playing COD4 on Xbox Live, when all of a sudden, The consoles fan started blowing like crazy, which caused two red lights to flash on my xbox and show nothing on my television screen,immediately turned it off. I waited two more days before playing again, but after those two days, my 360 still showed the two red lights after start up. So, one day, I decided to first take the COD4 disk out, and try again. It seemed to work, as my xbox 360 preformed normally and did not show any red lights, but as soon as I put a game disk back into my 360, the fans started blowing like crazy again, and caused the two red lights to appera. I tried starting up my xbox 360 with no game a second time, but just after about 10 minutes, the console overheated on its own. Now the time my 360 takes to overheat grows shorter and shorter every time I try to start it up. i’ve even tried doing what other people have told me, like not playing my 360 and letting it cool down for about a day, which I did the first time it overheated, but it didn’t work. I once even let it cool down for four days, but it would still overheat after about 10 minutes. How do I fix this? can I send it to Gamestop for a repair? Does Microsfot’s warranty cover this?

I have had my xbox for over 4 years now without any problems until recently. I havent played it any more than usual but it have been getting the double red ring(overheating) every time i turn it on. i cant even open up a game for longer than 5 minutes without it getting really hot and red ringing. Can anyone help me find a solution that can fix it until march, when i can buy a new one?

I have recently gotten 3 red rings on my Xbox, but it has happened 2 times. The first time i fixed it myself by doing the X clamp fix, but this time, I got the error code 0110, which means memory overheating or something else besides that.
I did not want to fix my Xbox again, kus this time I did not know what to do, so I sent it to Wired Extreme. Like I was asking, how can I keep this problem from happening again?
I just moved into a new house, I have a carpet, and it stays about 78 degrees in my room, but I have a open table to keep my Xbox 360 in the open, plus I have a wind tower in my room, and I use that to blow cool air for my Xbox, but I read that excessive heat up and cool down cycles that could break, or stress the soldered connection, so is the fan a good idea?
I usually just play for 2 hours. I dont have alot of time. but thanks for replying!

Yeah the best way is to play in a nice aired conditioned room and make sure its not hot in there

and dont leave the system on when your not usuing it

i have just tried to fix my xbox 360, this comes from having the 3 red lights on the ring at the front, i opened it up cleaned the thermal paste off and replaced it with tinfoil, this seemed to do the trick for a small amount of time, however if i put a game in or leave it for a few mins it freezes and over heats i switch it on and the three red rings come up again, i switch it off and leve it for 10 mins and it works but only for a few mins, just enough to fiddle with settings etc and save them, so it must be the tin foil? i dont know, i would be greatful for anyone to shed some light on this and any ideas instead of tinfoil is welcome , cheers.

Is it possible for the POWER SUPPLY of an Xbox 360 to become overheated instead the Xbox itself being overheated, thus casuing the xbox to overheat? I ask this because my Xbox overheated about three weeks ago, but I then took it to a game shop to get it repaired by a friend that works there.I got my Xbox back on week later ( two weeks ago) , and it played fine for about one week. But , during the beggining of this week (Monday), my Xbox 360 was on the brink of overheating, but hasen’t yet ( the fan blowing VERY hard, the same way it did when my Xbox overheated the tme before that). I let it cool down for four days, in front of an open window, before playing it again (Friday), but the fan still seems to blow VERY VERY hard. I’m worried to leave the console on for more than three minutes, just in case it overheats again. I know for a fact that my friend preformed a good repair on my Xbox because he used the method of cleaning the CPU and GPU chips with 90% rubbing alcohol, applying new Acrtic Sliver 5 thermal paste, cleaning the heat sinks, and closing everything up with nylon and metal washers ( all of which are supposed to be a PERMANENT fix). So, is my power supply causing my 360 to overheat?

NOTE: My 360 has adequete space to allow air flow in and out of the
vents ( nothing blocking them) in a spacious and arid room that
hardly ever gets too hot.

My fan wasn’t blowing nearly as hard before as it does now (except when it overheated that one time)

And I DO unplug the power supply everyday after playing it ( I don’t leave anything on standby , the orange light on the power supply in this case, due to my fear of the accumulated time the light is on enlarging the price of my energy bill)

When did you get the Xbox?

Before June 2007 the Xbox’s had a bad design.
Buy a Nyko Intercooler, or buy a few pc fans and put it in the back.
Make sure the fans direct air AWAY from the xbox 360.
Some people make the fans blow air into the 360 with causes the hot air to go back in.

Oh and, make the fans blow toward the window to get more air flow.

My xbox 360 just got the E74 error thing. Should i spend $100 to fix it? Or just buy a new xbox 360 slim which is supposed to vent better and shut down when it senses overheating for $300?

I would buy a PS3, but i cannot get used to the controller; I love the xbox controller and it’s triggers =]

Fix it..the new slim overheats quick and then shuts down for hours.
