I do know that that means it overheated. But I took it out the place it said it was overheating in and it hasn’t fixed the problem.

I also know that Microsoft only fixes problems dealing with 3 red flashing rings.

All free services are horrible at describing the process correctly and those fuzzy You tube videos are so hard to see. The fact is pay Microsoft $160 or just buy a real guide that has 720p videos and shows you everything in super detail. My buddies showed me a guide that did just that, and my Xbox has been working perfectly since then.

Problem solved my friend,

i have an air conditioner running almost all day long, does that help with keeping my xbox 360 colder for longer and to help prevent rrod?

The newer 360s have a different chip so overheating is not such an issue now. But here are several things you can do to make sure it doesn’t stop working when your on a 24 kill streak.

1. If you’re not worried about voiding the warranty you can purchase an intercooler online

2. Keep the xbox where it can get plenty of air, open shelf etc.

3. Keep it away from heat such a s radiators and the sun.

4. Dust around the xbox regularly to allow as little dust as possible to enter the vents.

5. Occasionally dust the vents and fans.

6. Make sure nothing is blocking the vents. Other electrical appliances, walls etc.

7. Avoid keeping it on it 24/7.

But if i were you i wouldn’t worry about over heating, the most common cause of RROD is the power adapter failing.

Whenever i turn on my xbox it gives me the two red lights which indicates overheating (i think) i have opened it up and tried the regular 3 red rings fix but this makes no difference, does anybody know how to fix this?

Xbox 360 2 red lights error is a very common error found while the ardent Xbox 360 gamer is at the climax of his game. Approximately one third of the consoles sold are plagued with this error and more than 10 million consoles have been affected worldwide since 2006.

The Xbox 360 2 red lights error occurs due to the X-clamps which fixed on the back of the motherboard. The connected components with the X-clamps become loose. That is why the connection between the graphics processor unit (GPU) and the motherboard is lost. This makes the video display system to malfunction.

Obviously overheating is the main cause behind this problem. The more the temperature rises inside the Xbox 360 console, the more the X-clamps expand. After then the clamps contract as they become cool. The repeated cycle of expansion and contraction during the course of time the makes the clamp loose so that there is no longer any connection between the GPU and the motherboard.

In order to fix your Xbox 360 2 red lights error, you need to unscrew the console, remove the motherboard and then tighten the screws on the reverse of the motherboard which are fitted with the X-clamps. After this, place the motherboard back and reconnect all the things. Thereafter, turn the console back on and see whether everything is working.

If this does not prove feasible, then you need to invest in the Xbox 360 repair guide. The step-by-step instructions of the guide with the necessary quality video tutorials will make your fixing the 2 red lights error an easy way. While opting for the guide make sure that the guide will not cost you more than $30 and assure you money back guarantee in case of failure of the fixing on your part.

Yeah, over the years since the xbox 360 came out I had like 3 or 4 different xbox 360s. The one I have now has been overheating ALOT. All I know is that I had it for about 2 years, which in my opinion is good, but now its really messing up. It takes me a while to read games or at least some and it sometimes reads them as DVDs or CDs now. I’m sick of it and I need a plan. My mom said that taken it apart and cleaning it could help, BUT she said there are seals and if you break them to fix your xbox you can’t get it fixed by microsoft. Any suggestions as to what I can do to repair it SAFELY to stop this crap? I really don’t want to destroy my xbox because we don’t have money for another 1 right now.

First step is to not take any of the already given advise. They are either completely unhelpful or they can damage your 360.

With Xbox 360’s and electronics in general. Is take care of them.

Treat them like you want them to perform. Keep it off of the carpet, do not keep it in tight and closed spaces. Do not place dvd/bd players or other systems below or on top of it.

Just make sure it has good air flow around it. And if you think thats not good enough, a small desk fan in the area couldn’t hurt things.
You could also prop the 360 up with something to allow more air intake in the bottom (i.e. dvd case, small box, etc)

My ex-boyfriend’s xbox’s tray is broken, and it won’t read the discs, so he’s trying to overheat it intentionally to get his xbox fixed for free instead of paying the $100 to have it fixed for the tray problem.
My question is, how can he make is xbox overheat faster, without waiting three days for it to overheat by leaving it running.
Thanks!

take out the game, remove all cables except the power chord… turn it on and wrap it in some towels or blankets and wait for 30 minuts-1hour tops and you should hear it slowing down… that means its over heated. i did this as a temporary fix when i got the red ring of death and it worked great

my xbox has 2 rings, which is the overheating thing. but it doesnt really overheat, its not hot when it says it overheats. right when i turn it on the fans go 90 to nuthin and then it says its overheated but its never hot. how can i fix that?

Its not the machine that is over-heating, but the CPU that the XBOX uses is over heating. One reason that happens is the grease on the CPU Heat sink is no longer potent (to say). The best trick is doing the towel trick. You can find it online if you google it.

But, the legist of the process is, wrap your 360 with towels (dry bath towels – NOT WET TOWELS) and turn it on for about 5-15min. What this does it really OVERHEATS and melts the CPU grease on the heatsink. This will sometimes fix the "Over Heating" Issue caused by the CPU.

Good Luck!

Recently I did the RRoD x-clamp fix. I followed this tutorial: http://www.viddler.com/explore/Rocket976/videos/3/

I turn my Xbox on, my fan almost instantly turns on max, and after just a few seconds, the Xbox turns off and 2 red lights flash. I used Arctic Silver as my thermal compound, and I’ve tried using a variety of different amounts, cleaning it up each time in between. No matter how many different amounts I try putting on there, it does the same thing. I also tried taking my upgraded heatsink from my Xbox Elite and putting it in this Xbox. Could it be the thermal pads on the other side of the motherboard?
I’ve tried varying the tightness of the heatsinks also. I can feel them getting hotter when my Xbox turns on then decides to overheat 30 seconds later.

Aaron the damage has already been done wrenching down the heatsinks really won’t fix anything. You have to understand how the xbox works first before you can attempt to fix it. Take a look at this picture.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r217/Carnifreekshow/gpu%20reball/Xbox_Architecture_large.gif

You’ll see that the cpu is actually piggy backed off the gpu and the gpu sends all the info to the southbridge. What does this mean? It means that somewhere between the cpu and the southbridge lies a connection issue. The xbox can’t see the thermal sensor and it’s immediately throwing 12V to the fan header. To fix this problem you are going to need heat, you need to remelt the solder that connects the cpu to the board.

If i were you and had limited resources i would try the heatgun technique.

Here’s a link to it.

Just follow the video then mount your heatsinks to the board and it should have fixed your issue.

If it didn’t fix your issue you’ll need a professional reflow. Contact me if you have any questions, just click on the link to my yahoo answers profile.

You know how noisy the console is when it first starts up? It sounds like an airplane taking off or something, well sometimes that sound just stops and all i can hear is the fan moving. That makes me think that its overheating or something.

to fix this the first time, i moved the console away from the 360 and set it up on a hard wooden table. When the problem kept going, I got my fan and set it up so that the air was blowing just past the Xbox, and then i angled it so that some air was blowing on it. Should I just go ahead and set the fan up so that its just facing the 360? I just don’t know how to stop making the game freeze.

Buy an xbox 360 INTERCOOLER it connects to the back of the xbox to stop it from overheating…the intercooler was made for the xbox 360 for that purpose it’s an internal fan for the xbox 360…putting your fan behind it won’t help…you can get and intercooler at Wal-mart..it isn’t that expensive.
